The Widow’s Might!

THE WIDOWS MIGHT!

Mark 12:41-44

INTRODUCTION:  We should be glad to offer the Lord whatever we can to further His Kingdom since all we have has come from Him in the first place: 1 Corinthians 4:7.  Sometimes our offerings seem so little with such great need but our precious little when given to our God, who is in the multiplication business makes a huge difference.    Today, we will learn from two widows how much difference we can make as we give the precious little our Lord has entrusted to our care.

I.               TWO WIDOWS!
In the book of 1 Kings we find the story of Elijah, one of God’s greatest Old Testament prophets who was suffering from a famine the people of Israel had brought on their nation by their idolatry. 1 Kings 17:1-16.  God had prepared this widow’s heart to believe the Word of God given through Elijah and she made bread for Elijah with her final cup of flour and the little oil she had, then she made some for herself and her son.  From that moment God multiplied her four and oil and they never ran out.  This widow gave her little to the Lord and He blessed it!  We read the story of the other widow in Mark 12:41-44; Mark 12:42.  Our Lord called special attention to this widow’s giving: Mark 12:43-44.  This widow gave with all her mite!  The widow’s mite became the widow’s might!  This widow may never have known in this life time that what she did was noticed by her Lord.  Her giving of all that she had is still a lesson given to Christ’s church some 2,000 years later.

II.              THE WINDOWS OF HEAVEN!
The Word of God promises us that when we give sacrificially and in sincerity to our God, He opens the windows of heaven to bless us: Malachi 3:10-12.  As you teach your children to tithe their allowance to the Lord’s work, you start the first instalment of a life-long habit that will multiply thousands of times over.  Remember today you are the storehouse, not your church!  1 Corinthians 6:19-20; Matthew 6:3-4.  Just a dime, given to the kingdom of God can be multiplied and make a huge difference over time.

III.            PRACTICING THE PRINCIPLE OF OUR PRECIOUS LITTLE!
Even if our gifts are small, over time they mount up and our God promises to multiply them!  2 Corinthians 9:6-11.  Over 90% of the giving which come into churches come from people who may never be able to give a huge amount all at once.  We all love to sing “Little is Much When God is in It!” because we know it to be true.  Our Lord can use our little gifts in large ways for His glory!  1 Corinthians 4:7.  If the Lord blesses you with much don’t be afraid to give in ways big and small.  If you have but a precious little, don’t be afraid to offer it to the Lord at His leading.  We can trust Him to multiply it for His glory and to give us even more so we can be even more generous for His glory.  Give God your two cents and watch Him pour out a blessing to you in return!

1 Corinthians 11:23-32: Communion service.
