My “Do Over!”

MY “DO OVER!”

Romans 3:21-28

INTRODUCTION: When you go to a cemetery and check out a tomb stone, what do you normally look at first? Usually I look at the date of birth and the date of death. That little dash in between those two dates is the number of years that person lived. We did not control our birth and we will not be in control of our death. However, we are in control most of the time of our dash. So the question becomes: “How will you chose to live out your dash? Psalm 39:4-5.

      I.   JESUS CHRIST THE DOOR OF RESURRECTION!

Two Billion people on this earth celebrate the fact that Jesus Christ is our hope of resurrection: Matthew 25:5-6. Our Lord Jesus fulfilled everything He said He would: John 2:19. God desires for you to know why you are here. God desires for you to know what He has planned for us beyond this earth. Because of sin, there is a separation between God and man. Because of that we do just what Adam and Eve did, we hid from God: Genesis 3:8-10. Every sin we do adds to the wall of separation between ourselves and our holy God. But our God has built a door in our wall of separation so that we may choose to once again have fellowship with our holy God. We can choose to receive God’s forgiveness and our sins will be removed as far as the east is from the west: Romans 3:21-24. What God is saying is He will accept and acquit us of our sins if we will trust in Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. Only our Lord Jesus is the door for His sheep to enter into His kingdom: John 10:7-10; Ephesians 2:8-9. This saving faith is all God’s idea. It is God’s gift to mankind from start to finish.

II.   JESUS CHRIST IS THE DOOR OF RECONCILIATION!

Through the finished work of Jesus Christ God made a way for reconciliation between God and man. Not only will we be reconciled with our God, but He will put it into our hearts to be reconciled with others. When people are dying they are talking about faith, family, and friends. How they would treat them if they could just have a “do over!” You can sometimes get a “do over” in the game of golf but can someone actually get a “do over” in life. We say “It is just too hard to forgive that person, they hurt me so deeply. Our God will give you resurrection power to forgive: Philippians 4:13. What relationship do you need to fix before it is too late?

III.   JESUS CHRIST IS THE DOOR TO FREE US OF THE FEAR OF DEATH!

Yet another door our Lord will give us is a door to stop fearing death! The mortality rate from the time of the prophet Elijah is still one hundred percent. Since we know we are going to die the only really important question is “Are we ready to die?” I hope you know that no matter how much material gain you have accumulated when you die you will leave it all:
1 Timothy 6:7-8. What will matter at that time will not be how much you have but how you have chosen to live! Have you walked through the door of forgiveness and reconciliation with God and with your family and friends?

IV.   JESUS CHRIST IS OUR DOOR TO HEAVEN!

Heaven is a real place where real people will spend eternity. The Bible makes it very clear there is only one way to get to heaven and that is through personal faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. I had a debt I could not pay. Jesus Christ payed my debit. Revelation 3:20. Jesus Christ will never come into your life without you opening the door of your heart to Him. Once we have the assurance of our salvation we never have to fear death again. Here is the way to have a no regret life: Matthew 6:33. As we live for our God and His glory we will live a “do over” life with no
