STANDING FOR THE TRUTHS THAT BUILT OUR NATION!

Psalm 144:1-15

INTRODUCTION: Our nation has a strong Christian heritage. The founders of our nation were primarily Christians. At least 50 of the 56 signers of the constitution were Christians. Psalm 144:15. Do you know that the term: “The separation of Church and State” is not in the constitution? We were not, nor did the framers of our constitution ever intend for this to be a secular society. If we as a nation are to know where we are going we must know where we have come from, why we are here and what we are to do, if we desire to stay on the same course.

I.   WHAT WAS OUR NATION MEANT TO BE?

When our nation was formed in 1776, 98% of Americans were Protestant Christians. 1.8% were Catholic Christians and .2% were Jewish. Therefore, at our nation’s founding 99.8% of American claimed to be Christians. Did our founding fathers want to give us a secular government? Did they have no interest in spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ? George Washington took his oath of office with his right hand on the Bible and when it was over he kissed the Word of God!

II.   WHERE WE ARE TODAY!

In the last sixty years we have taken the Bible out of our schools: Prayers out of our schools: Teaching morals out of our schools: and the Ten Commandments are also out of our schools. In our nation today more than half of all children under 16 have never been in Sunday school. They are not taught religion or morals at home or in the public schools. They have little to no concept of there even being a right or a wrong. 1 Timothy 3:15. How has this happened? It has happened because we as a nation have lost sight of what our founding fathers based this nation upon. Our founding fathers had no intention of founding a secular nation anywhere on earth.

III.   HOW DID WE GET OFF TRACK?

We were doing well as a nation all the way to 1891 when in Holy Trinity Vs. the United States, the Supreme Court said this is a Christian nation! In 1947, Fifty-six-years later the Supreme Court said “that there should be a wall of separation between the Church and State.” The idea of a separation of Church and State is nowhere found in the Constitution of the United States. The vote was 5 to 4 and it changed the form of our government from Christian to secular government: Romans 1:18-32. Adolf Hitler said: “If you tell a big lie often enough and loud enough people will believe it!” We have come to the point that most American’s today believe the lie that our nation was formed as a secular nation. That is a lie!

IV.   IS THERE A WAY BACK?

We need to pray for our leaders: 1 Timothy 2:1-5. We must as a nation humble ourselves and confess our sins, repent and then watch our God work! 2 Chronicles 7:14. There really is hope for our nation! We must pray! James 5:16
