CHRISTIANS WITHOUT COMMITMENT!
2 Timothy 1:1-18
INTRODUCTION: The apostle Paul said he had committed his salvation to God and he was not worried about it at all because God would guard his salvation: 2 Timothy 1:11-12. Many today are afraid to commit their souls to Jesus Christ. They have been taught for years that their salvation could be found only by joining a certain church or by being baptized or by keeping the Ten Commandments or the Golden Rule: Matthew 7:12. What we need to know about where to commit ourselves in regard to oursalvation is: “What does God’s Word say about it?”
I. THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY TO ETERNAL LIFE!
The Bible makes it clear that there is only one way to eternal life: Titus 3:5-7. Our salvation is not found in our good works but in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ: Ephesians 2:1-9; John 14:6. When we commit to Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, we are not committing to a stranger; we are committing our salvation to our Creator! John 1:1-3. Why should you commit to the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord? Because there is no other way to eternal life! Acts 4:8-12.
II. WE LIVE IN A DAY WHEN THERE IS VERY LITTLE COMMITMENT TO ANYTHING OR ANYONE!
Even as people stand at the altar and commit to one another in marriage; how many truly mean it when they pledge to God “to death us do part!” Today we want all our commitment to give us more than we give in those commitments. If our return on investment is not good we simply divest our words of commitment and move on. Many today have children they refuse to care for because they are not committed to them: 1 Timothy 5:8. It is truly time for Christian men and women to say “NO!” to the ways of this world: Titus 2:11-15. Today as we practice free sexual expression the most unsafe place for babies is in their own mother’s womb because of a lack of commitment! If you plan to be an effective Christian there are some things we must be committed to! 1 Kings 18:17-21. It is truly sad when God’s people will stand by as spectators when they should be active participants in the struggle against evil! John 21:1-5. Our Lord Jesus grilled Peter on what he was committed to: John 21:15-22. What is Jesus asking you to make a commitment to?
III. GOD IS COMMITTED TO YOU!
When we make the commitment to God that He desires us to make we find that God is then committed to us: Hebrews 13:5-6; John 6:35-37; John 10:28-29. Our God is committed to your salvation and to every promise He has given you in His Word. 2 Corinthians 1:20. Here is the commitment God wants from every born again son and daughter of God: Romans 12:1-2. If you make that commitment you will be committed to the Word of God: 2 Timothy 2:15; 2 Peter 1:3-4; James 1:19-25. You will be committed to the work of God: Matthew 28:18-20. You will be committed to the Church of God:
1 Timothy 3:15; Matthew 16:18; Hebrews 10:24-25. You will be committed to the will of God: Psalm 37:3-5; Proverbs 3:5-6; Matthew 6:33.
