GOD’S SWEETEST WORD!
Titus 2:11-15
INTRODUCTION: The word we are going to look at tonight is a word used in the New Testament 150 times but never by our Lord Jesus. Jesus was the greatest display of this word but He never used it Himself. The sweetest word in God’s Word in my opinion is “grace.” Our God is called “the God of all grace!” 1 Peter 5:10-11. If we were to take away the word “grace” from our churches and we would all have to close our doors: Acts20:24. Grace is the very heart of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Grace is God’s favor given freely and fully to us even thou we do not deserve it. Here is why I believe “grace” is the sweetest word in the Bible.
I. GOD’S GRACE REDEEMS US FROM THE PENALTY OF OUR SIN!
Titus 2:11. We are told plainly in this verse that it is God’s grace that brings us salvation. The bad news for all of us is that we are sinners and we need to be saved. The worse news is there is nothing we can do to save ourselves. The good news is you don’t have to do anything to get this salvation. The best news is Jesus has done it all for you, and all you have to do is accept it. That is grace! God’s grace is unconditional, there are no strings attached to this grace: Ephesians 2:8-9. Grace is the unconditional favor of God to an undeserving sinner. Most people spell God’s grace and salvation as “DO!” Others want to spell it “DON’T!” God’s way of spelling salvation is spelled “DONE!” There are no strings attached: there is no small print. John 1:12-13; Jeremiah 31:3. Our God’s grace is unmerited. Justice is God giving us what we deserve. Romans 6:23. Mercy is god not giving us what we deserve: Titus 3:4-7. Grace is God giving us what we do not deserve. Luke 23:39-43. Our salvation is entirely of grace. Grace is free to those who receive it but it always costs the One Who bestows it: Hebrews 2:9. We owed a debt we could not pay. Jesus paid a debt He did not owe.
II. GOD’S GRACE RELEASES US FROM THE POWER OF SIN!
Our salvation not only commences in grace it continues in grace: Titus 2:11-12. When we are born again we go to the first grade of god’s school of Christian living. With grace there is nothing to earn but there is much to learn. God begins to teach us that He loves us just the way we are but that He loves us too much to leave us the way we are. We are to leave behind our sinful ways: Titus 2:12; Jude 1:4. Grace doesn’t give you the license to live like you want to. It gives you the liberty to live like you ought to. Matthew 1:21. Grace changes us:
2 Corinthians 5:9. Grace changes our attitudes: Colossians 3:1-2. Grace changes our actions: 1 Corinthians 10:31. A person who has experienced the grace of God cannot live like he used to and does not desire to do so: 2 Corinthians 5:17. Grace leads us to desire a sanctified life: Titus 2:11-12; 1 Peter 2:11; Psalm 37:27; Titus 2:14. All this makes us people who are eager for good works. We are saved by grace to serve our Lord and others: 2 Corinthians 9:8.
III. GOD’S GRACE REMOVES US FROM THE PRESENCE OF SIN!
Titus 2:13: One day by the grace of God, the Lord Jesus Christ is going to come back and take us away from this world of wickedness. The grace of God is involved in both the first and the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. When Jesus comes back His is not coming just to take me to something, but to take me from something. We will be talking about God’s grace for all eternity: Ephesians 2:6-7. Grace is the greatest word in the Bible. I hope we can all taste it tonight and all the days and nights of our lives. Psalm 34:8.
