Rejoicing In Our Freedom

REJOICING IN OUR FREEDOM!
Psalm 33:1-22

INTRODUCTION: On July 4th we celebrated “Independence Day.” That is the day that fifty-six of the bravest men that ever lived signed “The Declaration of Independence.” It was signed on July 4, 1776. That document led to the “United States Constitution” in 1787. The Constitution was a document written to guide this nation to become the single most important, most powerful, and most free people on the earth. 1 Timothy 3:15.

      I.   LET US CONSIDER THE PAST HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMEERICA!

The people who first came to America risked their lives to be able to have a fresh start in order to worship their God according to their conscience. They were looking for freedom! They wanted freedom to worship Jesus Christ! Before those men ever got off the Mayflower they wrote “The Mayflower Compact.” It was because of God’s guiding hand that these colonies became “The United States of America!” Deuteronomy 20:4. Do you understand that the same God who set our nation free desires to set each of us free? The greatest bondage of mankind is sin and the greatest freedom we can ever experience is to be freed from our sin! Isaiah 61:1; John 8:34-36.

II.   LET’S CONSIDER THE PRESENT CONDITION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!

Many of the things that have been taking place in our country in the last few years under the banner of freedom would be enough to make our fore-fathers turn over in their grave. Today many of our leaders are making laws as if there is no God in heaven. Daniel 4:17; Daniel 4:35. We need to praise our God for the men and women who make up our armed forces. It is because of their sacrifice that we and our children remain free to pursue our dreams. We are today one of the most blessed nations on this earth because of our fore-fathers sacrifice. In America today we still have religious freedom and the opportunity for political dissent. In these troubling times the Word of God is still our comfort: Isaiah 41:10; Psalm 27:1. So in spite of some things that are going on in our nation that we don’t like, America is still a nation of religious freedom and opportunity for political dissent.

III.   LET’S CONSIDER THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA’S FUTURE!

Our nation’s future is uncertain. With crime at epidemic proportions, with unbridled decadence, with filth spewing out of our televisions and over our airways and literally parading our sinful passions in front of the world our future is uncertain. We are reminded of the words of Isaiah 5:20. There are some things that are certain: The Word of God is still true!
Mark 13:31. The Gospel is still certain: John 20:30-31. We can still turn to our God from our sin and receive His help. Help form God is certain: 2 Corinthians 12:9; Psalm 46:1-2. Only God knows the future of The United States of America. However, unless we as a nation seek after our God the nation we all love will not continue to be free. We need a national revival. We don’t know the future of The United States of America but there are some things we do know from God’s Word. We are all sinners in need of a Savior: Roman 3:23; Romans 10:13. Our God wants us to know that our time to serve Him is short: Romans 13:11. Our Lord wants us to know He is just waiting for us to turn to Him for the help we need: Matthew 11:28-30. We must remember that July 4th is not just about hot dogs and fireworks. It is about sacrifice and freedom. Psalm 144:15. My prayer is that we will be that nation!
