Using the Bible In Your Life!

USING THE BIBLE IN YOUR LIFE!

Isaiah 40:6-8

INTRODUCTION: How do we use the Bible in our lives? Isaiah 40:6-8: We have an eternal Word from God in our Bibles. We know from our Bibles that one day both the heavens and the earth will pass away. But also we know from the Word of God, that the Bible will never pass away: Matthew 24:35.

I. THE BIBLE IS GOD’S SEED THAT BRING LIFE!

God’s Word is a seed to bring life to mankind: 1 Peter 1:23-25. Notice that Peter is saying exactly what Isiah said and when we come to trust in Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior it is always because of the Word of God: Romans 10:17. The Word of God is the seed that must be planted in the heart of a person before the life of God can be given to that person: Matthew 13:1-9. Every child of God is called to be a sower of the seed of the Word of God! Psalm 126 :5-6; Galatians 6:7; John 12:24. Jesus Christ is that Seed that had to be sown into the earth in order to produce fruit for God.

II. THE BIBLE IS GOD’S LAMP THAT BRING US LIGHT!

The Word of God is not only a seed that gives life but also a lamp to guide our path in this life: Psalm 119:105; 2 Peter 1:19-21. Peter is saying better and more dependable that the miracles he had seen Jesus do is the written Word of God. Galatians 1:8-9. Jesus said men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil. Romans 1:18-32.

III. THE BIBLE IS THE BREAD OF GOD THAT GIVES US STRENGTH!

So the Bible is the seed that gives us life. The Bible is the lamp that brings us light in this dark world and the Bible is the bread of God that brings us spiritual strength! Deuteronomy 8:3; Matthew 4:1-4: Notice Jesus said “every word” is inspired of God. Jesus said “I am the bread of life!” John 6:30-35. When we take communion symbolically, we take part of the body of Christ when we eat the bread. And when we drink the juice we are symbolically drinking the blood of our Lord.

IV. THE BIBLE IS GOD’S SWORD THAT BRINGS US PROTECTION!

The Word of God is our sword that protects us from the lies and dangers of this world: Ephesians 6:17. The Word of God is our offensive weapon. When Satan attacks us with his half-truths we need to know the Word of God well enough to protect ourselves. That is exactly how our Lord Jesus protected Himself from Satan’s attacks: Matthew 4:1-11. If we don’t know the Scriptures we will be unprepared to fight against the wiles of the devil.

V. THE WORD OF GOD IS OUR CRITIC THAT BRINGS CORRECTION!

The Word of God is a critic that bring us correction: Hebrews 4:12. Why do we need the Word of God to judge the attitude and thoughts of our hearts? Because no man knows his own heart: Psalm 139:23-24. When the Holy Spirit uses the Word of God to critic our hearts and actions we can then repent and be cleansed. 1 John 1:9. When we gossip about others, it is the Holy Spirit using the Word of God to show us that we should not be doing that: Matthew 18:15- 17. We read many books and we are the critic that says this book is great or this book is worthless. The Bible is the book that critics us! The Bible is a double-edged sword because it both convicts and it converts. It cuts and it heals.

VI. THE BIBLE IS GOD’S HAMMER THAT BRINGS US POWER!

The Bible is God’s hammer that brings the power of God into our heart: Jeremiah 23:29.
We never give up praying and speaking the Word of God because it can break the hardest hearts. That is why we need to stay with the Bible as our primary tool along with the Holy Spirit to break the hearts of this world.

VII. THE BIBLE IS GOD’S FIRE THAT WARMS OUR HEARTS AND BURNS OUT OUR CHAFF!

The Word of God is like a fire that warms and burns. The prophet Jeremiah got discouraged and wanted to give up as a prophet for God. Jeremiah 20:7-9. We need to pray the Holy Spirit will give us burning hearts.
