WE WILL WIN!
1 John 4:1-6
INTRODUCTION: We are learning about spiritual warfare. Spiritual warfare is the struggle between good and evil, true light and darkness, the servants of God and the servants of the devil. We have talked about the reality of the invisible warfare we are all involved with. We have talked about our enemy the devil who seeks to destroy all our lives. And we have talked about how to arm ourselves for battle and engage our enemies through the Word of God and prayer. This morning we conclude our discussion with one simple thought: We Will Win!
I. OUR IDENTITY HAS BEEN TRANSFORMED! WE ARE NOW IN CHRIST!
When we received Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior we became a new creation: 2 Corinthians 5:17-21. In Christ we are no longer who we used to be. Our identity in Christ makes us blood-bought, heaven bound children of God: 1 John 4:4;1 John 5:4. As children of God we are now identified in Jesus Christ: Galatians 2:20; Romans 6:3-4. As followers of Jesus Christ our main identity should be rooted in our relationship with Jesus Christ.
II. OUR VICTORY IS GUARANTEED!
Every Christian’s victory is guaranteed! Romans 8:35-39. We are not just conquerors, we are more than conquerors through Jesus Christ who loved us enough to die for us!
Romans 8:37: Because our Lord Jesus has been victorious, we also will be victorious because we are in Him. As those born of God we have the divine nature within us and He helps us to obey our God. Our victory is a result of our faith, and as we grow in faith we grow in our love for our Lord Jesus. At Calvary, the enemy thought he had won. But three days later Jesus Christ rose from the dead and conquered death, hell, the grave, and all His enemies. When we by faith trust in Jesus Christ we are included in His victory!
III. OUR DESTINY IS ASSURED!
Our destiny as children of God is assured: John 16:33. In Jesus Christ our destiny is totally and completely changed forever! 1 John 2:13-14: We have overcome the wicked one. The apostle John used that phrase seven times in the book of Revelation to describe believers and the blessings they receive: Revelation 2:7; Revelation 2:11; Revelation 2:17; Revelation 2:26; Revelation 3:5; Revelation 3:12; Revelation 3:21-22. John is not describing a special class of Christians, we are all overcomers that have placed our faith in Jesus Christ. We will overcome this world: John 3:16. This world has a set of values that are contrary to God’s system and values: 1 John 2:15-17. Faith has always been God’s key to victory over the world, the flesh and the devil. When we simply take God and His Word and act on what our God says because it is true we are going to win against the world, the flesh and the devil. When our Lord rose from the dead it was the turning point of all history. Because of Jesus Christ’s victory we also are more than conquerors and will overcome with Him the world, the flesh, and the devil!
