What’s The Big Deal About The Resurrection?

WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL ABOUT RESURRECTION!

Matthew 27:50-66

INTRODUCTION: What is the big deal about the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus? Over 2 billion people will celebrate Jesus Christ’s resurrection today. The difference between Christianity and every other religion is that our Lord rose from the dead. Every other religious leader went to their grave and are awaiting their own resurrection. We have a living hope: 1 Corinthians 5:1-10.

I. RESURRECTION PROVES GOD IS IN CONTROL!

The resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ proves our God is in control! We serve a sovereign God: Isaiah 46:9-11.

II. RESURRECTION PROVES GOD HAS THE LAST WORD!

Our God always has the last word! Mark 15:37-47. Even though everyone involved said Jesus Christ is dead God had the final word. Luke 24:1-8. Our God always has the last word, that is why it is so important that we study God’s Word because it is not only true but it is the last word and it will always come to pass.

III. RESURRECTION PROVES GOD ALWAYS KEEPS HIS PROMISES!

Our Lord Jesus’ resurrection proves that God always keeps His promises. God keeps His promises 100% of the time: Matthew 27:62-66; Isaiah 53:7-12. Jesus had told His followers that after His death He would rise again in three days: Matthew 16:21. The Jewish leaders knew exactly what Jesus had said and try as they would to stop it, they could not stop the resurrection of our Lord: Matthew 28:1-7. The Bible tells us that try as Satan and mankind will there is no stopping the Lord from fulfilling all His Word: Proverbs 21:30. God has promised to keep those who trust in Jesus Christ and we can count on it: 1 Peter 1:3-5.

IV. RESURRECTION PROVES THAT GOD ALONE MEETS OUR DEEPTEST NEEDS!

Resurrection proves that God alone can meet our deepest needs. It is so easy to get caught up in the concerns of this world and the things of this world and yet we all still know something very important is missing in our lives. We have needs as spiritual beings that only a right relationship with our heavenly Father can meet. We have a desperate need to be loved unconditionally and only our Lord can give us that kind of love. Jesus Christ showed the extent of God’s unconditional love for each of us: 1 Peter 2:24; Romans 5:8. Yes, God loves you because He says He does; John 15:13. Jesus died for guilty sinners just like you and me. We are all guilty of sin against our God: Romans 3:23. But the good news is that we can get rid of our guilt and our sin by experiencing the total forgiveness of our God. The good news for us is that God is love and He longs to forgive each of us our sins and to spend eternity with us. Forgiveness is not a prize to be earned, it is a gift to be received. God will help us be able to cope with this life in His power: Philippians 3:10; Isaiah 33:6. God longs to share with you His unconditional love, His total forgiveness, and His very life. John 10:10; 2 Timothy 1:7.
