WHY IS OUR WORLD SHAKING?
Hebrews 12:26-29
INTRODUCTION: This present world we are living in is undergoing quite a shaking. Governments and nations that were once stable are now trembling. It is time to read the signs of the time and to check our historical maps. Where are we according to God’s master plan? Shaking the nations and even shaking the earth is nothing new for our God. Hebrews 12:26-29. The Apostle Paul in these verses was summarizing the above text from Haggai 2:6-7; Haggai 2:20-22. Yes, our nation and the nations of the world are being shaken.
- THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT WILL BE SHAKEN AND CHANGED!
Hebrews 12:26: No government or person no matter how powerful they are have the power to remain. Our world is changing as God shakes it. The transitions of world powers were given by God to Daniel in Daniel 2:31-44. The Babylonian empire by Nebuchadnezzar was the head of gold. The Medio-Persian Empire: by Darius and Cyrus was the arms of Silver. The Grecian Empire by Alexander the Great was the belly and thighs of brass. The Roman Empire was represented by the legs and feet of iron and clay. The coming Kingdom of Christ, the Rock was also foretold: Daniel 2:44; Matthew 21:42; Matthew 21:44. We must build our foundation upon Jesus Christ because He Is the chief cornerstone. Isaiah 33:6; Matthew 24:35. Our Lord Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever: Hebrews 13:8. All of our other relationships will change but our Lord Jesus remains the same forever: Hebrews 13:5-6. John 10:27-30.
2. LIVES AND THE THINGS WE POSSESS ON THIS EARTH WILL COME TO AN END!
Hebrews 12:27: The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is created things—so that which cannot be shaken may remain. Life on this earth is temporary so we must not live primarily for this earth but for heaven: 1 Timothy 6:6-7. Not only are governments and nations being shaken, but even our very lives are being shaken by our God. Our God is not nearly so interested in our being comfortable as He is in us being transformed to Christ-likeness: Roman 8:28-29. We as God’s children are not comfortable in this present world because we are not of this world. As Christians and children of our heavenly Father we have a citizenship in heaven: Philippians 3:20-21.
3. IT IS OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD THAT WILL REMAIN FOREVER!
Since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be destroyed we should be thankful! Hebrews 12:28-29. In this life we have choices, the question is what will we make our priority? Will we live for temporal things of this world or for the eternal life with our God? Will we live for the praise of men or the applause of our God? Will we stress the safety of our bodies or the salvation of our souls? Matthew 16:24-27. We are standing at a crossroads all the time we are on this earth. We must constantly choose to follow our lord’s paths for our lives: Jeremiah 6:16. My prayer is that we will choose to live primarily for Jesus Christ and His kingdom and not lose out on the many blessings offered us for remaining faithful to our Lord. Matthew 24:1-13. We must be careful that in all our shaking that we do not let our love for Christ grow cold.
