WILL YOU SEE GOD?
Hebrews 12:1-15
INTRODUCTION: How important is holiness in your personal view? How important is your holiness in God’s view? Hebrews 12:14; Romans 12:18. Sometimes with our very best effort we cannot live in peace with others, but your personal holiness is your choice. If you desire to live a truly holy life no one in this world can stop you.
- TRUE HOLINESS!
Many people who claim to be holy, our God says they are not holy at all in His sight. Balaam claimed to be a holy prophet of God, but God said Balaam was a prophet for profit, not for God. Numbers 25:1-5; 2 Peter 2:15-16. Judas Iscariot was an apostle but God said he was a thief and betrayed his Lord for thirty pieces of silver: John 12:1-6; Luke 22:1-6. The Pharisees had religious zeal but were not holy to God: Matthew 23:23-24. True holiness is not morality of life and outward respectability: Luke 18:18-27. Hearing God’s Word without obeying God’s Word is not true holiness: James 1:22-25; 2 Corinthians 5:17; 1 Corinthians 1:30.
2. HOLINESS OF LIFE POSITIONALLY IS THE HABIT OF BEING OF ONE MIND WITH GOD!
True holiness is agreeing with God’s judgment and learning to hate what He hates and love what He loves by using God’s Word as the measure of what truth is in this world. 2 Timothy 2:19-22.; 1Peter 1:13-16; Philippians 2:12-13. That person who that most closely agrees with God and seeks to have his own mind in harmony with God’s mind is truly a holy person: Romans 12:1-2.
3. A TRULY HOLY PERSON WILL ENDEAVOR TO SHUN EVERY KNOWN SIN AND BE LIKE THEIR LORD JESUS CHRIST!
The person who is truly holy will have a hearty desire to do God’s will for their life. The truly holy persona will have a greater fear of displeasing their Lord than anyone else in this world. Romans 7:22; Psalm 119:127-128. The truly holy person will desire to have the mind of Christ: Romans 8:28-29; Ephesians 4:31-32; Luke 6:46. The truly holy person will walk through this life in the love of Christ: John 13:34-35; 1 Corinthians 13:4-8; 1 Peter 2:21-25. A truly holy person will walk in the humility of his Lord: Romans 8:28; Numbers 12:1-16; Luke 23:34. A truly holy person will put to death the desires of his or her sinful flesh: Luke 21:34; 1 Corinthians 9:24-27; Galatians 5:16-17. A truly holy person will try to follow our Lord’s Golden Rule: Matthew 7:12. A truly holy person will seek to do only good to others: Acts 10:37-38. Dorcas was a godly example of holiness here: Acts 9:36; 2 Corinthians 12:15.
A truly holy person will seek after the fear of the Lord: Isaiah 33:6. Nehemiah is a good example here: Nehemiah 5:14-19. A truly holy person knows their heart is still a tinder box and will steer clear of all sparks that could ignite his sinful nature: Proverbs 4:23. Psalm 101:3. A truly holy person will have their primary affections on things above, not on things on this earth: Colossians 3:1-4; Colossians 3:23-24; Romans 12:11. Every true Christian, even the very carnal will see God in the life to come, but only the Christians who obeys Christ now will clearly see Him now, in this life. John 14:21; Amos 3:3; Matthew 5:6. When our Lord Jesus returns to this earth we are told in God’s Word that every eye shall see Him: Revelation 1:7.
So, our question should not be “Will you see God?” Our question should be “How will you see God? Some people will see God as their Savior and Lord and other people are going to see God as their Judge. How are you going to see God? For all those who have true faith in Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior they will see Jesus as their Savior and Lord at the Judgment Seat of Christ: 1 Corinthians 3:10-15.
All others who have not received Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior will appear at the Great White Throne Judgment and see God as their Judge. Revelation 20:11-15. This does not have to be your story. John 1:12-13; Romans 10:9-10, 13. You get to choose but you must choose now! Hebrews 9:27-28.
